Skilled Medicare Rehabilitation Services

Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy

Fairview Manor is a skilled Medicare Nursing Home.    This means that we are certified by Medicare to accept Medicare funds for the care of certain residents in our home.   Fairview Manor does not have a distinct unit for our residents using Medicare.     Our entire home is certified for Medicare which means that our residents do not have to move from one room to another to utilize Medicare services.

Our home is staffed with professional nurses 24 hours a day.   Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapists are also part of our facility.    We contract for each of these services and they provide these services in our building on an as needed basis.

To qualify for Medicare to pay for your care, you must meet certain qualifications.     Medicare Part A requires a three-day (three midnights) hospital stay before benefits can begin in a Skilled Nursing Home.    Medicare will pay for 100% of the cost for the first 20 days of a skilled nursing home stay, and then the beneficiary must pay for the co-insurance portion for days 21-100.   But, not everyone will qualify for the full 100 days of coverage in a skilled nursing home.    The resident must be receiving ‘skilled services’ to remain covered.

To determine coverage, Medicare requires the facility to do assessments on the resident.   The assessments are done on day 5, day 14, day 30, 60, and 90.     It is also possible that assessments are done on days in between.    An assessment is always done when Physical, Occupational, or Speech therapy is discontinues.

Medicare Part B can also cover certain services in the facility.     Medicare Part B covers for catheter supplies and certain other supplies related to ostomy care and tube feedings.      They also cover Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapy services for residents who are not covered by Part A at the time the services are rendered.    A doctor’s order is required for therapy services.

Medicare is different from Medicaid.    Medicaid is a state payment system that assists with Low Income residents.    Medicare is a federal payment system for those who are over 65 and have applied for their Medicare Benefits.

During one of our cooking activities, we grilled Kabobs.   Not  only did the residents enjoy constructing the Kabobs, they also enjoyed eating them.
